Bachelor of Arts Degree: 120 credit hours
Communication Studies Major: 54 credit hours (24 hours of core requirements, 12-21 hours of course work in a specific track of study, 6-18 hours of approved related course work)
PROGRAM INFORMATION
- The B.A. in Communication Studies offers five tracks of study:
- - Health Communication
- - Mass Media
- - Organizational Communication
- - Public Advocacy
- - Public Relations
- Declaring the Major: Students are initially classified as Pre-Communication Studies (PCOM) majors until they meet the following requirements:
- Earn a grade of C or above in:
- COMM 1101 Public Speaking
- COMM 2100 Intro to Comm Theory (restricted to 2 attempts)
- STAT 1220 or 1222 Intro to Statistics
- Complete Foreign Language requirement. Options are:
- Completion of a 2000 level course in a Latin alphabet based language (Spanish, German, French, etc.)
- OR
- Completion of a 1202 level course in a non-Latin alphabet based language(Chinese, Japanese, Hebrew, etc.)
- You must also maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- Online and Night Classes Available: There are a few online, hybrid, and night course options, however the major cannot feasibly be completed by taking only online or night courses.
- Minimum Grades/GPA: GPA of 2.0 or higher in the major required for graduation
