Dave has taught full-time for Drake University, University of Oregon, and, most recently, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he co-directed Experience Lab, a group of dynamic experiential learning programs designed to help early-career students find their professional niche. He has also taught adjunct courses for Butler University, Florida State University, and San Diego State University.

Dave’s professional experience prior to the academy includes corporate communications leadership roles with Bank of America, Principal Financial Group, and Wells Fargo. He has served clients on the agency side, too, and as an independent consultant. Most recently, Dave led the Des Moines (Iowa) Public Library Foundation as executive director.

Dave is a past fellow of the Plank Center for Leadership in Public Relations and the Arthur W. Page Center for Integrity in Public Relations. He earned his doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is accredited by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), and in 2015 was inducted into the PRSA College of Fellows.
