Update on Pass/No Credit election for Pre-Communication Studies courses

Acceptance into the Communication Studies major requires a C or better in Comm 1101 Public Speaking, COMM 2100 Introduction to Communication Studies, and STAT 1220/1221/1222 Introduction to Statistics, as well as an overall GPA of 2.0 and proficiency at the Intermediate level of a Latin based language or the Elementary 2 level of a Non-Latin Based Language.

Regarding Elected Pass/No Credit Grades from Spring 2020

In keeping with the provisions of the Pass/No Credit policy enacted for Spring 2020, if a student elected for Pass/No Credit in COMM 1101, 2100, or STAT 1220/1221/1222 and earned a Pass, the Department of Communication Studies would consider the Pass equivalent to a C letter grade. Therefore, the student could apply to the Communication Studies major with this (or these) course(s) taken in Spring 2020 evaluated as Passing if they were also meeting the other major prerequisite requirements. If a student took COMM 2100 in Spring 2020 and was evaluated as earning a(n) D/F and did not request their grade converted to Pass/No Credit, or if they earned No Credit using the Pass/No Credit evaluation, then this WOULD count as one of their 2 attempts of COMM 2100 afforded to them prior to declaring Communication Studies.

Regarding Elected Pass/No Credit Grades from the Fall 2020-Summer 2021 Academic Year

In keeping with the provisions of the Pass/No Credit policy enacted for the Fall 2020-Summer 2021 Academic Year, if a student elected for Pass/No Credit in COMM 1101, 2100, or STAT 1220/1221/1222 and earned a Pass, the Department of Communication Studies would consider the Pass equivalent to a D letter grade. Therefore, the student could not apply to the Communication Studies major with this (or these) course(s) taken during the 2020-2021 Academic Year evaluated as Pass/No Credit since Passing would not be considered a C or better. If a student took COMM 2100 during the 2020-2021 Academic Year and was evaluated as earning an D/F OR if they elect Pass/No Credit, then this WOULD count as one of their 2 attempts of COMM 2100 afforded to them prior to declaring Communication Studies. Reminder: the Pass/No Credit grading elections must be made by December 14th for Fall 2020, January 27th for Spring 2021, and May 25th for Summer 2021.
