Spainhour Consults with Pulitzer Prize-Winner for Charlotte Magazine Article
To report and write an article about an unsolved murder, Cheryl Spainhour, a senior lecturer in the Department of Communication Studies, consulted with a Pulitzer Prize winner at the Poynter Institute. The result, under the direction of Lane DeGregory, is an article in the May issue of Charlotte Magazine. For it, Spainhour reported and wrote about the unsolved murder of Kétie Jones, one of three women shot and killed on the streets of Charlotte in 2016. Of the Plaza Midwood-area murder, Spainhour writes: “A neighbor who has lived in the community for 30 years paused recently near Kétie’s makeshift memorial site on Hamorton Place. ‘We haven’t forgotten,’ he says.” To help Jones’ memory continue further, Spanhour’s article notes, Jones’ friends and family have created an endowed scholarship at UNC Charlotte for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools students with a passion for the arts who need financial assistance for college — people like Kétie Jones. Read Spainhour’s article and, if possible, please donate to the scholarship donation fund.
