Speech Team Hosts Competitive Tourney

The University of North Carolina Charlotte hosted its first Charlotte Motor Speechway Invitational Speech Tournament last weekend. Teams traveled from Alabama, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina and New York — making for a very competitive weekend. University guests included Chancellor Philip Dubois and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Administration Chris Bates. Among tournament judges were Communication Studies Department Chair Jason Black, as well as departmental faculty members and graduate students. The UNC Charlotte team placed Third in Limited Entry Sweepstakes with Sam Darwin earning third place in Dramatic Interpretation and Misty Morin earning fourth place in Poetry Interpretation. The team heads to Virginia in a few weeks for a very competitive tournament followed by tournaments in Pennsylvania and California.
