Bethany Johnson
Professor Bethany Johnson, a former visiting lecturer in the Department of History at UNC Charlotte and current Research Affiliate Faculty in the Department of Communication Studies and a Research Affiliate for UNC Charlotte’s Women + Girls Research Institute, she specializes in medical history and understanding the role of medicine and science in women’s lives from the early 19th century to the present. She is currently conducting research on patient-practitioner communication in reproductive endocrinology practices. She has published in Health Communication, Women and Language, Departures in Qualitative Research, Journal of Holistic Nursing and International Journal of Health and Media Research. She has a forthcoming book with Rutgers University Press, co-authored with Dr. Margaret M. Quinlan titled, You’re Doing it Wrong! Mothering, Media and Medical Expertise, which will be released in 2019. Her previous work includes international microfinance, including policy development for programs for women in post-conflict settings.
